Faintest of touches from Julian Alvarez was enough to cancel goal as per Article 14.1 of IFAB Laws of the Game.

Atletico Madrid played their local rival Real Madrid for 6th time in UEFA Champions League and lost 6th time. This time, it was in the round of 16 in tie breaker after they had goal aggregate of 2-2 across two legs. But the talk of the football world was the disallowed penalty goal of Atletico's forward Julian Alvarez in the tie breaker. In VAR review, it was found that Alvarez had a faintest of touches with his standing foot when he slipped before kicking the ball to goal.

As per the Article 14.1 of IFAB Laws of the Game, if the kicker touches the ball again before it has touched another player, goal is disallowed and an indirect freekick is awarded to the opposing team. Since this was a tie breaker, goal was disallowed and Real Madrid won the match in tie breaker by 4-2. UEFA has acknowledged that they will enter into discussions with FIFA and IFAB to propose a change when player double touches ball unintentionally while taking penalty kick.
