On 14, January 2023, Manchester United closed gap with their neighbors Manchester City with help of a controversial goal from Bruno Fernandes. As per the rule, play is offside when

’ clearly attempting to play a ball which is close when this action impacts on an opponent.
Rashford clearly attempted to play ball from an offside position impacting City’s defence but backed off for Fernandes from an onside position to score.
