Brazil's first home defeat in qualifiers
On November 22, 2023 Argentina handed Brazil their first home defeat in world cup qualifiers, 2026. In a bad tempered match in iconic Maracana stadium in Rio de Janeiro, Nicolás Otamendi scored only goal from a Giovani Lo Celso corner. Brazil's qualification statistics at home until the match stood as 51-13-0 in 64 matches. It's a record they were maintaining from 1954 onward. Brazil was coming after a bad run with consecutive away defeats against Uruguay and Colombia. Consecutive away defeat in qualifiers were also a new experience for Brazil.
