On 3 May, 2023, PSG suspended Messi for 2 weeks. His suspension is for an unauthorized trip to Saudi Arabia to do promo for Saudi tourism. As per the reports, PSG's coaching staff informed players if they win against Lorient on 30 April, 2023, players would have off on 1st and 2nd of May and if not, only on 2nd of May. PSG lost by 3-1 to Lorient, but Messi went ahead due to his contractual obligations for promo and skipped training on Monday. Fellow PSG players were not happy with Messi's trip. PSG acted tough this time and handed over a suspension of 2 weeks to Messi.
